Everything we do is an art project, sustainability is woven into our creative expression—not just as an environmental effort but as a performative act. Participants are living living sustainability through art, travel, food, and daily practices, turning eco-consciousness into a state of art and way of life. Every action is gamified, encouraging knowledge-sharing, playful experimentation, and inventing solutions never seen before.
Rather than just implementing pre-set sustainable practices, participants are co-creators, proposing and integrating new ways to reduce their carbon footprint, measuring their impact, and challenging themselves to find more sustainable approaches in everyday life.
Many of our artistic activities are using and repurposing existing waste materials, aligning with the zero-waste challenge. Our goal: no new materials unless absolutely necessary. Participants are encouraged to:
✔ Create art using only recycled/upcycled materials
✔ Design a zero-waste performance as part of the project, exploring sustainability through creative expression
✔ Experiment with innovative ways to repurpose "trash" into something valuable
This challenge not only fosters environmental responsibility but also pushes the boundaries of creative thinking.
🌿 Permaculture Principles in Action:
✔ Produce No Waste – Every material has potential; nothing is discarded.
✔ Creatively Use & Respond to Change – Trash becomes treasure.
The dining area is an interactive space where sustainability is not just discussed—it is experienced and practiced together. Participants are introduced to a Zero-Waste Kitchen, where all food is repurposed and waste is minimized collectively as a game.
Gamified sustainability practices will include:
🥕 Mindful Eating Challenge – Participants are invited to take small portions first, refilling only if still hungry, reducing leftovers.
🥦 Vegetarian/Vegan Challenge – Encouraging participants to explore plant-based meals for the duration of the project as a low-carbon lifestyle experiment.
🍎 Daily Carbon Footprint Reflection Board – A visual scale (neutral → positive) where participants can reflect and evaluate their own environmental impact, including food waste reduction and conscious consumption.
♻️ Composting & Waste Separation – Participants are encouraged to create compost and actively separate waste.
Through these playful, interactive challenges, participants will develop practical habits that they can take home and apply in their daily lives.
🌿 Permaculture Principles in Action:
✔ Apply Self-Regulation & Accept Feedback – Participants monitor their food habits and adjust collectively.
✔ Use & Value Renewable Resources & Services – Food waste is minimized, and leftovers are repurposed creatively.
Sustainability is not imposed but rather built together from the start. During the initial agreements phase, participants can:
✔ Propose their own sustainable practices
✔ Share their knowledge and experiences on eco-conscious living
✔ Co-create a Sustainability Charter—an evolving set of guidelines developed by and for the group
Sustainability discussions will continue in reflection groups, where participants can support each other, exchange ideas, and brainstorm solutions to live more sustainably both in the project and beyond.
Every morning, during our self-regulation and feedback circles, participants can:
✔ Address any sustainability-related questions or concerns
✔ Discuss resource use and responsible consumption
✔ Exchange creative solutions for minimizing waste and improving impact
🌿 Permaculture Principles in Action:
✔ Use & Value Diversity – Sustainability is not one-size-fits-all; different perspectives, cultures, and ideas enrich our collective approach.
✔ Integrate Rather Than Segregate – Learning and implementing sustainable solutions as a community.
Green travel is not just encouraged—it’s a creative challenge. Participants will be invited to make their journey to the project a sustainable, artistic, and shared experience, considering:
🚆 Trains & Carpooling – Prioritizing low-carbon travel wherever possible.
🚶♂️ The Camino Challenge – Since the venue is on the Camino de Santiago, participants can hike part of the way as a performative act of sustainable travel.
🎥 Documenting & Sharing – Participants taking creative travel routes (biking, walking, carpooling, etc.) will be encouraged to document and share their journey as an artistic statement.
This turns the act of getting to the project into a sustainability performance, raising awareness and inspiring others.
🌿 Permaculture Principles in Action:
✔ Use & Value Renewable Resources & Services – Opting for trains, shared rides, and energy-efficient travel.
✔ Creatively Use & Respond to Change – Finding innovative, low-impact ways to reach the project.
Throughout the project, we will:
✔ Use only local, seasonal, and at least vegetarian food (with accommodations for allergies & dietary needs).
✔ Ban all disposable items—participants will bring their own water bottles, cutlery, and notebooks / reuse old paper, plastic bottles.
✔ Encourage composting and conscious waste separation.
By making sustainability interactive, engaging, and part of daily life, we ensure that these practices are not just learned but truly integrated—during the project and beyond.
🌿 Permaculture Principles in Action:
✔ Use & Value Diversity – Food choices will respect different cultural and dietary perspectives while staying sustainable.
✔ Apply Self-Regulation & Accept Feedback – Daily self-evaluation keeps the group accountable.
Sustainability in this project is not a set of rules—it is an artistic, performative, and interactive journey. From how we travel, eat, create, and reflect, every moment will be an opportunity to experiment, challenge ourselves, and co-create new sustainable solutions.
By embedding permaculture principles into our actions, food, materials, and travel, we ensure that sustainability is not just a temporary practice but a lifelong mindset that participants will carry forward into their own lives.
